BOLD (Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease) Project In collaboration with Imperial college London

BOLD (Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease) Project was a cross-sectional survey on the prevalence of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in Khartoum -Sudan. The project implemented in collaboration with Imperial College London.

 

Objectives

•Develop a basic cookbook of standardized methods that can be used to estimate COPD prevalence.

 

Scientific Objectives

• Measure prevalence of COPD and its risk factors in sudan.

• Estimate the burden of COPD in terms of its impact on quality of life, activity limitation, and use of health care services.

• Describe the distribution of COPD according to age , sex , and smoking history.

• Develop a validated model to project future burden of COPD

• Describe the clinical symptoms reported by subjects diagnosed with COPD.

BOLD Eligibility

• 40 years old and above age groups

• Men and women

• From the general population (except institutionalized people, such as those living in community centers, prisons, etc)

 

The study took Place in Khartoum state between 2011 and 2014
