BOLD -Plus (Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease) Project In collaboration with Imperial college London

BOLD-Plus (Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease) Project was a cross-sectional survey on the prevalence of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in Gezira state Sudan. The project implemented in collaboration with Imperial College London and is a second phase of the first BOLD project. The aim is to find the prevalence of chronic lung diseases in Rural Sudan.

Objectives

• Measure prevalence of chronic lung diseases such as COPD and Asthma and its risk factors in rural Sudan.

• Estimate the burden of chronic lung diseases in terms of its impact on quality of life, activity limitation, and use of health care services.

• Describe the distribution of chronic lung diseases according to age , sex , and smoking history.

• Develop a validated model to project future burden of chronic lung diseases

• Describe the clinical symptoms reported by subjects diagnosed with chronic lung diseases.

 

BOLD Eligibility

• 18 years old and above age groups

• Men and women

• From the general population (except institutionalized people, such as those living in community centers, prisons, etc)

 

The study took Place in Gezira state between Aug 2015 and Dec 2016
